Strengthening women's peace networks — From Addis Ababa outward, with sisterhood across borders
On 18–19 September 2026, the Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) and Ethiopian Women’s Peace Table (EWPT) brought together women peacebuilders from Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, and an IGAD representative from Djibouti for two days of Regional Experience-Sharing and Learning Exchange on Women, Peace and Security at Crescent International Hotel, Addis Ababa — in partnership with ACCORD, and with the financial support of the Government of Ireland through Irish Aid.
The event was aimed at sharing experience, strengthening regional networks, and identifying practical pathways for advancing women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, mediation, and peace and security decision-making.
One message ran through every session: the shift now needed is from participation to influence — strengthening women-led peace infrastructure, sharing evidence across borders, and building deeper regional solidarity and coordination.
