The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Association in partnership with USAID/OTI is facilitating a validation workshop on coffee for peace Women-Led community conversation with the Ethiopian Women Peacebuilders (EWPB).
A three-day multi-platform event was conducted by the women collectives and Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) in collaboration with Plan International Ethiopia (PIE) The women collectives (NEWA, ECD, UEWCA, and EWLA) and Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) in collaboration with Plan International Ethiopia (PIE) had conducted a three-day multiplatform event from Aug 29-31, 2023. The event aims to create a linkage between women’s organizations and potential donors for future collaboration and strategic partnership. The event is also organized with the objective of showcasing the women’s organizations’ efforts and achievements for the stakeholders. The first day was intended to bring out women’s organizations ask and challenges in working with international donor organizations to present discussions with the donor organizations. The second day was the grand opening of the exhibition and high delegate of government officials and donor organizations Mrs. Mekdm Gullat Deputy Country Director of Plan International Ethiopia, Mrs. Yelfign Abegaz UN Women Program Head and Representing Donor Group for Gender Equality, His. Excellency Mr. Fasikaw Molla Authority for Civil Society Organizations, Deputy Director, Her Excellency Mrs Alemitu Oumed State Minister of the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, Honorable Werkesemu Mamo Chair Person of Health, Social Developments, Culture, and Sports Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives participated and officially opened the exhibition. The third day was a discussion session with private sectors and government officials on social corporate responsibility and opportunities and challenges in working with women’s organizations. More than 45 women’s organizations participated in the workshops and exhibition. International donor organizations and government stakeholders also participated in this event. The event created opportunities for networking and partnerships were created between women organizations and international donor organizations as well as women organizations and private business institutions.
NEWA in partnership with UN WOMEN conducted training on transformative leadership and decision-making skills for women leaders in civil society organizations Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) in partnership with UN WOMEN in Ethiopia is conducting a training on transformative leadership and decision-making skills for women leaders in civil society organizations. The main goal of this training is to enhance the capacity of women leaders in CSO become influential and transformational leaders with improved abilities to effectively tackle challenges including gender inequality and injustice. It will also create networking opportunities and enhance collaborations among women leaders of different CSOs. The training will continue for two days in Adama town.

With the support of the European Union (EU), NEWA in partnership with Oxfam-GB conducted the second Advisory Panel meeting on an Action Research project NEWA is implementing an action research project titled: “Determining Ethiopian Women’s Status and Priorities: An Action Research Project” with financial support from the EUD-EU- External Action Services, jointly implemented with OXFAM GB. The overall objective of the research project is to contribute to the improvement of equality and women’s empowerment through evidence generation. Further, the expected outcomes of the project are 1) National survey and qualitative research on the current status, priorities, needs, and asks of Ethiopian women conducted, and a report produced and 2) Research and advocacy capacity of women associations and structures enhanced. This research project has its own management and coordination structure. One of the structures is the high-level advisory panel (HLAP) which comprises people from Ministry of women and social affairs (MoWSA), Ethiopian Statistics Service (ESS), Ministry of Plan and Development, Ministry of Education and OXFAM GB. The major tasks of the advisory panel is overseeing the overall activity of the survey.NEWA held the first advisory panel meeting on June 6/2023. The agenda of the first meeting was establishing the advisory panel for the national survey of Ethiopian women, selecting the chairperson and secretary of the advisory panel and approving the ToR of the advisory panel. Also discussed on the survey project methods prepared by the consultant of the survey. The panel provides inputs and comments. The panel members have also attended the national consultative meeting on the same agenda and gathered inputs to enhance the team and tools. The second advisory panel meeting held on August 10/ 2023 to collect valuable inputs and comments to improve the survey methodology and tools and to approve the inception report of the national survey.

NEWA was attending the Grand Bargain annual meeting with the localization leaders of the margin We were attending the Grand Bargain annual meeting with the localization leaders of the margins which were held at the Humanitarian Hub in Geneva, Switzerland. In the high-level meeting, our executive directress Mrs. Saba G/Medhin presented on topic with the impact on women during crisis and the role of women organizations, challenges and opportunities. The aim of the roundtable meeting was just to discuss on how to make concrete advances of the Grand Bargain at the national level and to facilitate a direct dialogue between localization leaders and donors identify next steps, and to make the Grand Bargain commitments into concrete operational steps. The discussion also focused on the national reference groups as a key forum for local actors to engage in Grand Bargain processes at country level and on how to achieve greater progress in the allocation of funding including overhead costs to local actors.
