With the support of the European Union (EU), NEWA in partnership with Oxfam-GB conducted the second Advisory Panel meeting on an Action Research project NEWA is implementing an action research project titled: “Determining Ethiopian Women’s Status and Priorities: An Action Research Project” with financial support from the EUD-EU- External Action Services, jointly implemented with OXFAM GB. The overall objective of the research project is to contribute to the improvement of equality and women’s empowerment through evidence generation. Further, the expected outcomes of the project are 1) National survey and qualitative research on the current status, priorities, needs, and asks of Ethiopian women conducted, and a report produced and 2) Research and advocacy capacity of women associations and structures enhanced. This research project has its own management and coordination structure. One of the structures is the high-level advisory panel (HLAP) which comprises people from Ministry of women and social affairs (MoWSA), Ethiopian Statistics Service (ESS), Ministry of Plan and Development, Ministry of Education and OXFAM GB. The major tasks of the advisory panel is overseeing the overall activity of the survey.NEWA held the first advisory panel meeting on June 6/2023. The agenda of the first meeting was establishing the advisory panel for the national survey of Ethiopian women, selecting the chairperson and secretary of the advisory panel and approving the ToR of the advisory panel. Also discussed on the survey project methods prepared by the consultant of the survey. The panel provides inputs and comments. The panel members have also attended the national consultative meeting on the same agenda and gathered inputs to enhance the team and tools. The second advisory panel meeting held on August 10/ 2023 to collect valuable inputs and comments to improve the survey methodology and tools and to approve the inception report of the national survey.

In the high-level meeting, our executive directress Mrs. Saba G/Medhin presented on topic with the impact on women during crisis and the role of women organizations, challenges and opportunities. The aim of the roundtable meeting was just to discuss on how to make concrete advances of the Grand Bargain at the national level and to facilitate a direct dialogue between localization leaders and donors identify next steps, and to make the Grand Bargain commitments into concrete operational steps. The discussion also focused on the national reference groups as a key forum for local actors to engage in Grand Bargain processes at country level and on how to achieve greater progress in the allocation of funding including overhead costs to local actors.

NEWA in partnership with Plan International Ethiopia organized a half-day validation workshop Network of Ethiopian Women Association in partnership with plan international Ethiopia organized a half-day validation workshop on the assessment and findings of gender-based violence case stories.NEWA’s Executive Directress Mrs. Saba Gebremedhin welcomed the participants and briefed the project objective. She emphasized the main objective of the project is to improve the gender-based violence response mechanisms and proper services for GBV survivors in a certain implementation area.A finding of GBV assessment stories documentation, and case stories compilation in the implementation areas of SNNPR, Oromia, Amhara, and Addis Ababa were presented by Mr. Kassahun Belay.Following the presentation, discussions, and recommendations were forwarded from the participants. The workshop was held at Magnolia Hotel, Addis Ababa.
