Arts Night: As part of the 16-day activism campaign

Arts Night – As Part of the 16-day Activism Campaign The afternoon was blessed with young women and girls eager to network, enjoy, and participate in the panel discussion, poetry competition, games, and selected documentaries that NEWA had organized and that were held at the MOSAIC hotel in the open-air garden on December 7, 2022, from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. NEWA invited a panel of young women from various women’s rights organizations and movements, who gave an inspiring speech and shared their experiences with the audience. The panel discussion was fruitful and full of interaction. The event concluded with the young women and men promising for themselves in order to advocate for others to end gender-based violence.

A high-level panel discussion to mark the 16 Days of Activism against GBV was conducted A high-level panel discussion to mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence has been hosted by Stéphane Jobin, Ambassador of Canada to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the African Union today at the residence of the Ambassador. The panel discussion was organized by the embassy of Canada in collaboration with NEWA. Commissioner Rigbe Gebrehawaria, commissioner for Disability Rights and Rights of Older Persons at the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and Ms. Saba Gebremedhin, Executive Directress of Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) were among the panelists. In the discussion, the role of women-led civil society and its role in protecting women and girls, serving survivors, and informing policy and legal frameworks have been highlighted.

Launching of the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence       The launching of this year’s 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence was held at Hilton Hotel Addis Ababa, on 25 November 2022 in the presence of H. E Mrs. Kimia Jundi, Women Caucus Chair at the House of Peoples Representative (HoPR), H.E Deputy Commissioner Rakeb Messele of the Ethiopia Human Rights Commission and representatives of Civil Society Organizations-CSOs and various government institutions. In the morning a high-level panel discussion on addressing the needs and priorities of women with disabilities organized by Ethiopian Women with Disabilities National Association (EWDNA), in partnership with Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and UN Women was held. The GBV campaign group chaired by NEWA has given a press statement announcing “በግጭትም ሆነ በሰላም ወቅት ፆታዊ ጥቃት ይቁም! ዝም አንበል!” will be the theme for the group’s this year 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. The statement highlighted the need to raise public awareness on the prevalence and impacts of GBV, call for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to end violence against women and girls in Ethiopia and the need to raise awareness on conflict and emergencies related sexual violence. The group also announced a donation drive called “ለእህቴ” (for my sister) to support women and children displaced because of the conflict in northern Ethiopia.

የስነ ፅሑፍ፣ ስነ ግጥም፣ መጣጥፍ፣ የስነ ስዕልና አጫጭር ቪዲዮዎች ውድድር​ የኢትዮጵያ ሴቶች ማህበራት ቅንጅት (ኢ.ሴ.ማ.ቅ) በኢትዮጵያ የስርዓተ ፆታ እኩልነትን ለማረጋገጥና የሴቶችን መብቶች ለማስጠበቅ የተቋቋመች መንግስታዊ ያልሆነች የሴቶች ደርጅቶችና ማህበራት ጥምረት ናት፡፡ ኢ.ሴ.ማ.ቅ ከምትሰራቸው ስራዎች አንዱ እና ዋነኛው ሴቶች፣ የሴት ልጆችና ወጣት ሴቶች የሚገጥሙዋቸውን ተግዳሮቶች፣ ፍላጎቶች ወደ ሚመለከታቸው መንግስታዊ ውሳኔ ሰጪ እና ሌሎች ባለድርሻ አካላት በማቅረብ ትኩረት እንዲያገኝና የፖሊሲ ምላሽ እንዲሰጥ ማድረግ ነው፡፡ የሴት ልጆችንና የወጣት ሴቶች ድምፅ በማጉላት የፆታ-እኩልነትን ማረጋገጥን ህልም አድርጋ እንደምትሰራ ተቋም በስሯ የተለያዩ ፕሮግራሞችን እና ተግባራትን ታክናውናለች፡፡ ከእነዚህ ተግባራት አንዱ ከቴር ደስ ሆምስ ኔዘርላንድስ (Terre des Hommes Netherlands) እና ሌሎች አጋር አካላት ጋር በመተባበር በወጣት ሴቶች ላይ ትኩረት ያደረገች ‘‘ትመራለች SheLeads”የተሰኘ ፕሮጀክት በመተግበር ላይ ትገኛለች፡፡ በሴቶችና እና በወጣት ሴቶች ላይ ጾታን ላይ የተመሰረተ ጥቃትን ለመከላከል የ16 ቀናት የንቅናቄ ቀናት በየአመቱ የሚካሄድ አለም አቀፍ የሲቪል ማህበረሰብ መሪ ዘመቻ ነው። በሴቶች እና በወጣት ሴቶች ላይ በጾታ ላይ የተመሰረተ ጥቃትን በመቃወም ለ16 ቀናት ከሚዘልቀው እንቅስቃሴ ጋር በተያያዘ በህዳር 28 2015 ዓ. ም. የስነ ጹሁፍ፣ ስነ ግጥም፣ መጣጥፍ፣ የስነ ስዕልና አጫጭር ቪዲዮዎች ውድድር ለማድረግ ታስቧል። በዚህ መሰረት፣ በሴት ልጆች እና ወጣት ሴቶች ላይ የሚደርስን ፆታ ላይ የተመሰረተ ጥቃትን  የሚቃወምና ከንቅናቄው ጋር የተገናኙ   ግጥም፣ አጫጭር ቪዲዮ፣ መጣጥፍ እንዲሁም ስዕል በማቅረብ እንዲወዳደሩ ጥሪ ታቀርባለች። አሸናፊው የእውቅና ሰርተፍኬት፣ ተምሳሌት መጽሐፍ፣ በኢ.ሴ.ማ.ቅ የሩብ አመት የዜና መጽሄት ላይ ስራዎቹ ይቀርባሉ፣ እንዲሁም በኢ.ሴ.ማ.ቅ ማህብራዊ ትስስር ላይ ለሰዎች ይደርሳል። ለውድድር ስራዎቻቹን መላክ የምትፈልጉ መወዳደሪያ ስራችሁን በሚከትለው ኢሜል newethiopia@gmail.com አድራሻ መላክ የምትችሉ መሆኑን እንገልጻለን። ማሳሰቢያ፡ የማስረከቢያ ቀነ-ገደብ ህዳር 20፣ 2015ዓ. ም. ላይ ይሆናል። ማክሰኞ ከሰዓት 11፡00 ሰዓት በፊት  እንዲልኩ እንጠይቃለን።

NEWA delivered 3 days training that focuses on gender in humanitarian action, leadership, advocacy skills & on identifying GBV risks NEWA in collaboration with UN women is implementing a project that focuses on prevention of SGBV and response in Afar and Amhara. In line with this, Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) has delivered a three-days training that focuses on gender in humanitarian action, leadership, advocacy skills and on identifying GBV risks and engage in GBV mitigation strategies, referral pathways, and community-level protection mechanisms to 25 representatives of Women Rights Organizations (WROs), women’s groups and other stakeholders from Afar and Amhara regions. The training has been conducted from October 25- 27, 2022 at AZZEMAN Hotel.
